Dr. Jan Pullen
Head of School,
Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School
Tell us about your business and what you do?
Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School, an independent, college preparatory school welcoming all faiths, is nationally respected. We provide a worldclass education at every level from three year olds through grade 12. Students are nurtured in small classes and encouraged and supported by outstanding faculty who help them navigate a curriculum that balances academic rigor and character development.
What makes your business stand out?
We instill each student with a love of learning in an environment where independence, self-worth, physical health and spiritual awareness are valued. SSES students are also prepared to become global citizens. Our teachers regularly connect with peers around the world through technology that creates educational outreach opportunities with over 40 schools in more than 20 foreign countries. We deliver exciting programs, including extensive AP courses, PK-12 daily foreign language, unique marine science offerings, and a wide variety of customized curricular and extracurricular experiences focused on meeting individual student needs.
Why have you been successful?
We consistently deliver on a sincere promise to prepare students to be not only achievers in the classroom but good people who are equipped with the tools for long-term success. And we’re very fortunate to have an extended school community that is incredibly passionate about our mission and consistently willing to do what it takes to help us reach our goals.
Why did you choose to be involved in ‘Together Manatee’?
As a founding member of the program and a school that’s committed to being actively involved in the community at-large, we feel it’s important to continue to help shape the direction of the Together Manatee program. Working with others in the community is how a community grows and prospers, and we want to be a part of that in Manatee County.
